The owner wished to build a sustainable dwelling and to disturb the site as little as possible. An added challenge was an extremely modest budget.
These challenges were met by refining and reducing the program, thus the square footage of the house while satisfying the owner's needs and wishes.
Due to the retainment of virtually all of the site's trees the house was built with no air conditioning. Rather, a whole house ventilating fan was installed to keep fresh air circulating. Heating is provided by a hydronic system with a high efficiency gas boiler.
